Pregnancy and Post-Partum Boss Moms- August 2019

For anybody who didn’t know, I had my second baby in July (you can read about her birth story here). So it only made sense that August was all about the Boss Moms who work in pregnancy and post-partum care.

Each week I had a chance to interview a hard working mom over Facebook Live and have some great discussions about their field of work.

To kick things off, I interviewed Dr. Kate Church, a chiropractor, nutritionist and hormone specialist living in New York State. Dr.Church and I chatted about the importance of balancing your hormones ahead of pregnancy and the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy and post-partum. She even gave a few easy examples of exercises moms can do at home with a new baby. If you have questions for Dr. Church, check out her website here. Or if you want to see the full interview, check it out here.

Next up was Amie Scharfe, a co-founder of National Capital Doulas in Ottawa. This isn’t the first time I have had a chance to chat with Amie, but this time we focused on learning about the different services doulas offer, and why you may want to consider a doula as part of your pregnancy or post-partum care. Amie even wrote two blog posts published on the MillennialBossMoms website, talking about why you need a birth doula, and why you need a post-partum doula. If you want to connect with Amie directly, check out the National Capital Doulas website. Or if you want to see the full interview, check it out here.

The third BossMom for August was Stephanie De Montiny, the owner of Pure Natural Newborn photography. Although we mainly talked about her photography business, Stephanie actually has 3 businesses, which she manages while at home with her little one. Stephanie gave some valuable insight into what goes on in a newborn photo session ( I never knew why they needed to be 4 hours), along with tips for how to choose a photographer and when to book your session. If you want to get in touch with Stephanie to book a session, check out her website here. Or if you want to watch the interview, click here.

To close out the month, I interviewed Aviva Kluss, the co-founder of Mom Friends. An amazing business which puts together post-partum care packages that you can gift to a new mom or mom to be. Aviva and I talked about how important it is to have real conversations about what to expect post-partum both physically and emotionally. On top of being a gift that moms will actually use and an amazing conversation starter about the realities of post-partum care, Mom Friends is a business with a big heart. They support The Butterfly Run Ottawa, an organization which supports families who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss. Mom Friends provides Butterfly Boxes to these brave moms who have to navigate the physical changes of life after pregnancy, while trying to make sense of an unbelievable grief. If you want to know more about Mom Friends or the Butterfly Run, check out the websites linked above. If you want to see my full interview with Aviva, check it out here.

I am so thankful to these four ladies for having such honest and insightful conversations with me. There is so much about pregnancy and post-partum care that we don’t sit down and talk about enough so it is amazing to talk to women who are not only experts in their field, but also moms who have experience in pregnancy and post-partum care themselves.
