Meet Norma-Jean, a mother of two and an entrepreneur with Monat Global. For anyone who does not know Monat, “Monat is a revolutionary and innovative hair care line of naturally based products.” Norma- Jean started her business with Monat two years ago, while on maternity leave with her second child. Previously working in the insurance industry, she was dreading going back to work, losing time with her children, and essentially spending her income on daycare costs. Looking for something that was just for her, and a new opportunity so she could stay home with her children after maternity leave ended.
Getting involved with an MLM company was intriguing to Norma-Jean because it allowed her to work “without leaving my home to host parties, deliver products” however she was skeptical about selling products she did not believe in, and running a business she was not passionate about. When she started seeing facebook posts from a friend about Monat, she knew she had to learn more, and jumped into the business without looking back. Norma-Jean’s children are still young (2 and 4), and has left her job in the insurance industry. She is now making more money than her previous career and is learning what “time freedom” means.
The biggest challenge Norma-Jean faces in her business is the ‘mom guilt’ that goes along with trying to grow a business and still be present for your family. Whether spending too much time focusing on the business and customers, or spending too much time with her family, trying to find a balance is exhausting. With countless hours of time and determination, Norma-Jean has become the only Monat Director in Ontatio and the first Monat Motor Club member in Ottawa which has provided her with a Cadillac escalade, and the financial freedom to spend more time with her family.
The best advice Norma-Jean can pass on to other mom entrepreneurs? “Believe in your ability to be whatever you want to be. Mindset is everything in this industry, and you need to believe in yourself before you can sell a product or opportunity. You can fit a business into an already busy life, by fitting it into the nooks and crannies of your day. If you cannot dedicate hours at a time, break it up throughout the day. Get up before the kids in the morning, work during nap time, find some other moms who are in a similar boat and trade off babysitting so each of you can fit in some uninterrupted work time, and have a dedicated space where you can work that is not around the kids toys, and laundry so you can focus for a few minutes. It won't be easy, but with hard work and perseverance it will be worth it.”
